Understanding RADiSSD: Dosage informational video

12/7/20251 min read

Introduction to Radissd

RADiSSD stands for Raising Awareness of Dosage in Speech Sound Disorder, a group of UK/Ireland academics, researchers, and Speech & Language Therapists (SLTs) focused on improving therapy outcomes by emphasizing dosage (frequency, intensity, duration) in treating speech sound difficulties in children, promoting evidence-based practice for better results. They provide resources, like free informational videos, to educate clinicians on how much therapy is needed and how to apply dosage principles effectively.

What RADiSSD Does:

  • Promotes Evidence-Based Practice: Encourages SLTs to move beyond eclectic approaches to follow established evidence for dosage in interventions.

  • Improves Outcomes: Aims for better results for children with Speech Sound Disorders (SSD) by optimizing therapy delivery.

  • Increases Efficiency: Supports service models that use dosage effectively to improve resource use.

  • Offers Resources: Provides videos and materials to help clinicians understand and implement dosage in their practice.

Key People Involved:

  • Dr. Jill Titterington

  • Dr. Jan Broomfield

  • Dr. Pam Williams

  • Dr. Sean Pert

  • Helene Somerville (Founding Member)

In essence, RADiSSD is a movement within speech therapy to ensure children with speech sound disorders receive the right amount of therapy for the best possible outcomes, based on research.

Parental Involvement:

RADiSSD is looking to connect with parents of children with Speech Sound Disorders and with young people who have SSD themselves. By getting involved, you can play a vital role in shaping the future of therapy and helping guide the kind of support our children truly need.

I recently joined this group, and I cannot express enough how incredible this group are. You’ll find a wealth of information to support your child on their journey to find their voice, and by sharing your experiences, you can help shape the therapy not only for your own child, but for many others finding their way too.
